The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) is a visa which allows you to enter Australia and work for your sponsoring employer.

You must have an occupation on the Consolidated Skills Occupation list for an employer to successfully sponsor you during your application for a Temporary Skills Shortage visa.

Am I eligible for this visa?

The basic eligibility for a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) is:

  • You must be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
  • You must have the right skills to do the job
  • Meet the relevant English language requirements

There are four streams with varying lengths of stay which make up the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482). 

Short- term stream

This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

Stay
You can stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.

Medium-term stream

This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian worker.

Up to four years

Your occupation is on either the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL)

You can work in Australia for up to four years. 

Labour agreement stream                   

This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement. It lets you live and work in Australia temporarily. Labour agreements are developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers.

Stay
Up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the terms in the labour agreement

Cost
From AUD $2,645

Your employer has to have a labour agreement with the Australian government in effect. 

Subsequent entrant

This visa is for family members of subclass 457 and Temporary Skill Shortage visa holders who are applying separately for their Temporary Skill Shortage visa and wish to join the primary subclass 457 or Temporary Skill Shortage visa holder in Australia.

Stay
You can stay for as long as your visa is valid
