Senior lawyer Giuseppe Ensabella sat along Geelong waterfront

New appointment – Giuseppe Ensabella

As a 17 year old trawling through a careers guide, Giuseppe Ensabella’s future career direction was to be determined by three words he had written on a serviette – ‘airforce pilot’ and ‘lawyer’.

“I decided that I should go for the one which would see me subjected to less G-forces,” Giuseppe joked.

Giuseppe joined the Coulter Legal Corporate & Commercial team as a Senior Lawyer in November 2017 after cutting his legal teeth in the Melbourne office of multinational law firm Baker McKenzie – the second largest law firm in the world – practising across commercial law, property law and litigation with exposure to international clients and complex commercial matters.

For the last few years, he has worked in-house at VicTrack – a government body which owns Victoria’s transport land, assets and infrastructure – with a focus on general commercial and property work including commercial leasing, retail leasing, negotiated construction control management, and developer agreements including drafting and negotiating development agreements for the Melbourne underground rail tunnel.

“Having worked in both a law firm and in-house, I know what commercial clients want and expect from their lawyer,” Giuseppe said.

“Simply telling clients what their problems are, or what the law says, is not what a lawyer should do. I know that I need to really know my client’s business so that I can provide solutions that best fit them within legal parameters.”

Giuseppe grew up in Italy and Melbourne and recently relocated to Geelong with his wife who is a local Geelong girl and fellow lawyer.

He said that Geelong – and Coulter Legal – was a great fit for him as a top commercial firm in the region.

“Geelong is growing into a vibrant commercial city and there is huge untapped potential for business growth, which is what I aim to help my clients leverage.”

“The firm offers the personalised, down-to-earth service that clients expect of a regional firm whilst having the capability to perform complex commercial work that may otherwise be sent to Melbourne,” Giuseppe said.

Coulter Legal Managing Principal, Tom White, said Giuseppe had brought a unique offering to Geelong which would prove a great advantage for the region in terms of commercial expertise.

“Giuseppe’s wealth of commercial experience working on major national and international projects, as well as his in-house experience, adds another layer to our strong commercial offering, which will ensure that Coulter Legal is well placed to service the complex legal needs of our increasingly commercial region.”
